Did you...? Asking about the past

آیا …؟ پرسیدن از گذشته

To ask a past question, put 'Did' at the start and use the base verb, not the past form.

'Did' carries the past — the verb goes back to normal

«Did» گذشته را نشان می‌دهد — فعل به شکل ساده برمی‌گردد

  • 1.

    Start a yes/no question with 'Did': Did you go? Did she call?

    برای سوال بلی/نی با «Did» شروع کن: Did you go? Did she call؟

  • 2.

    After 'Did', use the plain verb — 'go', not 'went'. 'Did' already shows past.

    بعد از «Did»، فعل ساده استفاده کن — «go»، نه «went». «Did» خودش گذشته را نشان می‌دهد.

  • 3.

    Short answers: 'Yes, I did.' / 'No, I didn't.' — no need to repeat the whole sentence.

    جواب کوتاه: «Yes, I did.» / «No, I didn't.» — نیازی به تکرار تمام جمله نیست.

Dari vs English · دری و انگلیسی

Dari makes a question just by tone or 'آیا'. English needs the extra helper word 'Did' at the front, and it changes the verb back to its simple form.

دری سوال را فقط با لحن یا «آیا» می‌سازد. انگلیسی به کلمهٔ کمکی «Did» در اول نیاز دارد و فعل را به شکل ساده برمی‌گرداند.
